SAPETRO Donates ₦1 Billion to Boost Lagos Security Architecture

It’s a big lift for public safety efforts in Lagos State as South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO) today donated the sum of ₦1 billion to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to reinforce the commitment of the security funding agency to support security infrastructure and community well-being across Lagos State.

The donation follows the recent private security breakfast meeting hosted by the Lagos State Governor, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu where SAPETRO was among the select organizations invited to deliberate on strengthening the state’s security framework. The high-level gathering brought together key private-sector players, security experts, and government officials. The meeting reflected a collective resolve to enhance the safety of residents, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

SAPETRO, one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous exploration and production companies with an expansive footprint of over 74,000 km² in West Africa, has long emphasized responsible corporate citizenship. The company’s latest contribution ranks among the most significant single private-sector donations to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) in recent years, underlining its recognition of the vital link between security, economic development, and social stability.

Expressing profound appreciation, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Fund, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, praised SAPETRO for its exemplary support and landmark intervention. He noted that the gesture would go a long way in strengthening ongoing security operations, acquiring essential equipment, improving logistics, and reinforcing the capacity of security agencies across the state.

Dr. Ogunsan described the donation as “a demonstration of visionary corporate leadership.” He highlighted SAPETRO’s donation as a model example of private-sector partnership, which aligns with the Governor’s call for enhanced support from the business community.

Ogunsan emphasized that safeguarding Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre requires strong public-private collaboration. He added that contributions of this magnitude not only bolster the Fund’s operational effectiveness but also inspire other responsible organizations to step forward.

With this substantial contribution, SAPETRO strengthens its reputation not only as a key player in Nigeria’s energy landscape but also as a socially responsible organization dedicated to advancing national development. Its donation underscores the indispensable role that robust security systems play in fostering investment, driving growth, and ensuring long-term prosperity.

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund will deploy the funds strategically to address priority needs, ensuring improved safety outcomes for millions of residents and businesses across the state.
