The West African country of Senegal now has a new President. He is Bassirou Diomaye Faye who was recently elected at the presidential election held in the Francophone country, TheMediaGood Newspaper can report.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye took the oath of office today in an inauguration ceremony which was well-attended by world leaders. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was led by its Chairman, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria.
Leading to the March 24 presidential elections in West Africa’s most stable democracy, 44-year-old Bassirou Faye promised that he will manage the country’s resources effectively and will stamp out corruption. ‘His victory was seen as reflecting the will of young people frustrated with widespread unemployment and former colonial ruler France, seen by critics to be using its relationship with Senegal to enrich itself’, France 24 observed about the electoral triumph of Faye who is an ally of Senegal’s opposition giant, Ousmane Sonko.
It should be recalled that but for domestic and international outcry, the former President of Senegal Macky Sall had shifted the presidential elections billed for February 2024 to December which would have gone beyond his constitutional stay as President of Senegal.
