The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has unveiled plans to introduce an electric campus transportation scheme across 12 pilot tertiary institutions, beginning November 2025, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for innovation and student welfare.

TheMediaGood Newspaper gathered this information when TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono held a courtesy visit to the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). He indicated that the initiative will modernise mobility systems, enhance safety, and promote sustainability across campuses.

The initiative shows that each pilot campus will receive electric shuttle vehicles, charging stations, and a low-fare, student-managed service model to ensure affordability and accountability. This initiative is part of a broader welfare reform covering hostel rehabilitation, power supply improvements, and digital learning infrastructure.

The scheme also supports Nigeria’s transition to green energy and low-emission transport solutions in the education sector. It will improve student welfare as it reduces transport costs and safety risks for on- and off-campus students. It will also stimulate green transition as it promotes renewable energy adoption and environmental sustainability within education infrastructure.

Further, it signifies institutional Innovation as it encourages youth participation in managing clean mobility systems and integrating learning, enterprise, and responsibility.
