In a thrilling upset, Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens secured a two-run victory over New Zealand at the 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

This historic win marked Nigeria’s debut triumph in the tournament. The match took place on January 20, 2025, as part of the tournament’s day three action in Malaysia.

Captain Lucky Piety’s impressive performance, including Nigeria’s first six at a Women’s World Cup, helped the team finish with 65 runs for six wickets in 13 overs. The Junior Yellow Greens then restricted New Zealand to 63 runs for six wickets, sealing their momentous win.

Despite initial weather concerns, Nigeria made the most of their chances, delivering an energetic fielding display that pressured New Zealand’s run chase. Tight bowling from Lilian Ude proved crucial in securing the win.
