The Nigerian contingent at the 2nd edition of the African Military Games (AMGA 2024) has finished the continental sporting masterpiece with a total of 231 medals. Team Nigeria polled 114 Gold, 64 Silver and 53 Bronze. Algeria finished second with 95 medals, that is, 52 Gold, 22 Sliver and 21 Bronze.
The strong showing of the Nigerian Taekwondo fighters at the Day 3 events at the Velodrome in Package B of the MKO Abiola Stadium also improved Nigeria’s medal showing. The Taekwondo Gold medals were won by Nigeria Armed Forces Mohammed Yusuf – men’s 54kg, Bisallah Rejoice – women’s 46kg, Ibeh Nancy – women’s 49 kg; and Chinenye Anam Glory – women’s 53 kg.
The sporting fiesta featured games such as football, athletics, Taekwondo, Archery, Boxing, Basketball, shooting, Squash, Taekwondo and Wrestling, among others at designated venues, within the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The closing ceremony of the 2nd African Military Games is slated for today, Saturday 30th November, 2024.
It will be recalled that the first edition of the multi-sports competition which brings together Africa’s militarymen and women was held over 12 years ago in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002.
