NIGERIANS, OR CRETANS?!

NIGERIANS OR CRETANS

If you are wondering what the title is about, it’s from Titus 1:12, “One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans (many Nigerians on my mind here) are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” Hmmmm, ‘O ga!’

This writeup stems from a video clip that someone sent to me this morning, which is likely making rounds now. It’s about a lady, dubbed “Fearless Igbo lady”, who seriously tongue-lashed Wole Soyinka, Femi Falana and Tunde Bakare, for keeping quiet under the untold suffering of the Tinubu regime.

Here’s my response to the sender of the clip, “True, but not the whole Yoruba TRUTH. Her generalization is warped. Sowore, Dele Farotimi and DA, are all Yorubas, and they have repeatedly spoken the TRUTH to Power.”

The fact that three Yoruba activists who protested against the Jonathan government are silent under Tinubu doesn’t make the entire Yoruba people traitors and cowards. Such stereotyping is unintelligent and myopic.

I am well aware that many Nigerians, including my church brethren, are gifted liars, and can be very economical with the TRUTH where their personal interests are concerned, but there are still some TRUTHFUL few who will not keep quiet, not even if it would cost them their lives.

They are infinitesimally few in our country, and churches. Many Nigerian pastors can’t walk up to their General Overseers and respectfully tell them the TRUTH when they are clearly wrong. If we don’t encourage such in the CHURCH – THE PILLAR AND GROUND OF TRUTH – how should we expect our senators and misrepresentatives to tell the Executives (Presidency) the TRUTH?

I have often maintained that we are breeding hero worshippers, liars and lascivious people in churches, and not true BELIEVERS or CHRISTIANS.I have NEVER subscribed to such idolatrous nonsense. I’ll NEVER treat any man as God, and I write against treating Men of GOD as God of men.

I left a church in Lagos some ten years ago. When I went to tell my pastor that I was leaving, he said to me, “Pastor Dele, you’re leaving! You’re one of the very few people I have around me who tell me the TRUTH.”

That’s the biggest challenge confronting many top General Overseers today – hardly does anyone tell them the TRUTH. The are venerated beyond correction, even when their cronies see them going down the cliff. Same for our top political leaders.

When we start telling each other the TRUTH in Love, then, shall SANITY BE RESTORED to our churches, and country.

SELAH!
