OGUN STATE WILL BECOME ‘LEADER IN EDUCATION’ – ARIGBABU, AS SCHOOLS SET FOR RESUMPTION

The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology in Ogun State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has called on teachers to enhance their knowledge of modern teaching techniques to better educate students and improve the overall quality of learning across the state. Prof. Arigbabu made this appeal during the second day of the First Term Pre-Resumption Stakeholders Meeting for the 2024/2025 academic session, held at Lisabi Grammar School in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

The meeting included teachers and private school proprietors. He emphasized the importance of teachers being well-prepared, focused, and dedicated to ensuring that their classrooms are interactive and engaging for students. In addition, Arigbabu revealed that the Ministry of Education is exploring partnerships with the Ministry of Agriculture and soilless farmers to introduce farming programs in schools. This initiative aims to generate additional funds for school maintenance.

The Commissioner also announced plans to make woodwork a compulsory subject in the school curriculum to promote entrepreneurship, thereby helping students develop skills for future livelihoods. ‘We are determined to make Ogun State a leader in education. Everyone must contribute to achieving this goal. I wish you all a smooth resumption and a successful term ahead.’

Also speaking at the event, Ronke Soyombo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, encouraged teachers to be creative and innovative in their teaching methods. She stressed the importance of building strong relationships with students, especially given the current economic climate.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, urged participants to strictly follow government policies, implement the outcomes of the meeting, and serve as role models for students.

Leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Oluwaseun Agbesanwa; the Non-Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (NASUSS), Olumide Oduneye; and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Oladipupo Sewakanu, each expressed gratitude to the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, for recruiting new teachers to strengthen the teaching workforce.
