MY NEW WHATSAPP EXPERIENCE

I rarely delete chats because I love to keep my train of thoughts and conversations with my people. When I wanted to start using my new phone, my concern was ‘oh my I would lose all my chats’.

To my delight, WhatsApp has a feature that can enable you transfer chats from one phone to another. I didn’t know about it, ‘make I no lie, make I no steal’!

I really do not know so much about navigating phones, computers, and other tech gadgets. As long as I know enough to find my way on the important aspects needed for my routine activities, I am good to go. So whether that feature has been there all the years or it was recently introduced, I do not know.

I am writing this treatise to you in case you don’t know like me.

STEP-BY-STEP TO TRANSFERRING WHATSAPP CHATS

  1. Go to the top right of your WhatsApp screen to click the three dots
  2. Scroll down and click settings
  3. Scroll down to chats
  4. Scroll down to chat backup. If you had always put your WhatsApp on backup, you would likely have your email saved for chat backup. Otherwise, your backup might be on ‘never’, then you would have to input your email address to back up all your chats to date.
  5. Go on your new phone to download Whatsapp and register with your exact phone number.
  6. Once done, you then scroll down on your old phone to ‘transfer chats’ where you would be prompted to point your old phone to scan a QR code on your new phone.
  7. You would then wait calmly for the process to complete. Once completed, access to WhatsApp on the old phone will be denied.
  8. WhatsApp on the new phone is fully operational and your old chats restored.
Note: Do not delete WhatsApp on both phones until the entire process is completed.
