Wow! It is true what Proverbs 14:34 says, “RIGHTEOUSNESS exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” RIGHTEOUSNESS exalts, even in death. It’s simply amazing the overwhelmingly impactful feedback that the piece on Prof. Gbola Durojaiye has generated, and continues to garner.
I’m presenting these few responses, hoping it won’t well up tears (but of joy and appreciation to GOD for a life that was sold out to JESUS), but to let his spouse and children know (remind them, actually) the GOOD WORKS of their father, his enduring LEGACY OF RIGHTEOUS LIVING, and to ENCOURAGE them to continue in the FAITH of their patriarch, as we all continue to follow CHRIST, like he did.
Prof. Durojaiye showed me (and everyone that knew him) who/what a TRUE CHRISTIAN should be; and he remains the closest/nearest CHRIST-LIKE believer I have met so far. Men, and women, like him, prove that GODLY, RIGHTEOUS, HOLY LIVING is possible.
A dear brother, and lecturer at the University of Ibadan, Dr. Kunle Kolawole, sent in these gracious words.
“*Still on Professor Gbola Durojaiye*
Thank you Bro Dele for bringing to remembrance Professor Gbola Durojaiye. Indeed, he left an indelible mark behind, which almost 30 years after his departure, it’s still very green in my memory and I believe in many others.
I could remember vividly with nostalgia the day his exit was brought to us in IVCU, sometimes in July 1995. It was on a Wednesday, at about 7.30 – 8pm, and we were in the Chapel for fellowship – a Bible Study day. The then President, and other Central executive members, took the IVCU bus and left. I, as the Bible Study Secretary, was “left alone” to take “charge”. They came back later to break the news of the exit of this great man of God few days earlier in South Africa. He was one of my favourite, soft spoken, but impactful servants of the Most High God.
Bro Dele had described him fully, and others who spoke at the wake keep service held for him at Kurumi Street/Road (I hope I got the address right) on UI campus. Another thing I personally noted and learned from him was his *ability to keep to time whenever invited to minister*. Professor Durojaiye would rather minister powerfully for “55 minutes” out of an hour given to him, than to speak for “61 minutes!!”
I have been on UI campus for nearly 4 decades now, both as a student and staff, and in my own assessment *, I have not seen anyone whose death shook the university campus to the foundation like amiable Professor Durojaiye.*
I wouldn’t know if the Christian wake keep service held in his honour was recorded, it would be of immense benefits to the Body of Christ to have it played. Perhaps, our Mummy Durojaiye can help in this regard.
For me, in appreciation of his influence upon my life, my M.Sc project was dedicated to his loving memory. Though he left us at a relatively young age, he was without doubt one of the heroes of faith in our generation.
*Jesus is Lord.”*
Mr. Akindele Feyisetan wrote, “His last words to the Abadina Fellowship was, “Continue where I stopped.”
Bro Femi Adigun wrote, “Thank you for this post. I was at the Wake Keep service too. I can’t forget that Abadina people’s testimony.”
Prof. Mrs. Olapeju wrote, “Uncle Gbola Durojaiye was indeed one of a kind, and of unusual humility. He and the wife were one of my role models.
Aunty Sola Durojaiye is also an angel in human form.
May Uncle Gbola’s soul continue to rest in peace.”
May we be USEFUL, and RELEVANT, in GOD’S HANDS, both in Life and death, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME.
We heartily celebrate the Life and Legacy of Prof. Gbola Durojaiye, and his ‘Wonder Woman’ spouse, Mrs Sola Durojaiye, who has kept the flag flying, and done a marvelous job of raising their three small boys into successful men, and fathers. Blessed hath thou ma, and all thine, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME.
SHALOM.
