My brother, ally, friend, and partner, the media czar Mayor Oki Samson was passionately discussing his experience so far in China with me. Describing the beauty his eyes have seen so far, he questioned ‘could China be the streets of gold that the Bible revealed’. He spoke about how the roads were well-paved, how automated vehicles drive themselves on the road, how road crashes are rare because people strictly adhere to rules, how their ‘villages’ are comparable to our own Lekki for beauty, how China has a working, deliberately planned system that they converge to review every 5 years, and many more.
During the phone conversation that lasted over 2 hours, one word that kept coming out was ‘intentionality’. He mentioned it quite a number of times as he speaks about how China produces virtually everything it uses: food, goods, services, technology, etc, and how the Chinese government bankrolls industry with right policy and full backing. He noted that Chinese – young and old – recognize that the only country they are competing with is United States, and they are doing so with deep interest and fervour.
Does it mean China is a perfect society, absolutely no. There are wicked people there also, but the system is so strong to rein them in. That’s why people like them will come to Africa, and seeing our ‘anyhowness’ will capitalize to do evil as aided and abetted by our own. Nigeria will be great, Africa will be great, but we will have to try intentionality as a society
