President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the state’s 2026 governorship election, placing a call to the Governor at about 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, even before the final results were formally declared.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared winner of the election on Sunday after polling 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.During the call, it was learnt that President Tinubu told Adeleke that the people of Osun State had spoken through the ballot and that their mandate should be respected.

“The people of Osun have spoken. They have given you their mandate to govern them for another four years. Their will must prevail. I congratulate you and wish you well,” the president was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Tinubu, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Adeleke’s victory confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in the governor.

The President said the outcome reflected the will of the electorate.“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.

He wished Adeleke success as he prepares for another four years in office, but charged him to reach across political divides and unite the state behind a common agenda of development.

“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” the President said.

Tinubu also praised the other candidates for their conduct during the election, saying their participation strengthened the country’s democratic culture.

“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture. The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” he said.
