Yes, you read the headline right, no errors. In Lagos, there are so many landladies, but so few landlords. During a virtual men’s health session that I attended today, we barely had 7 men present while the other leg of the same health session suited for women recorded 30.
In the same men’s session, the doctor informed that UK data showed that men were more prone to suicides compared to women. And then I thought, even if we do not have similar data in Nigeria, this is probably true, at least, going by the Third Mainland Bridge jumps in our recent history.
I, then, did a mental comparison of the surviving landlords and landladies that I know within my area and elsewhere, more women were still bouncing while their male counterparts have ‘lo ile ogo’, that is the Yoruba for ‘they have been translated into glory’
Men, including me, pay less attention to ourselves than we do others. It’s understandable by our makeup and societal expectations. We would however do ourselves a world of good if we do better. It’s little by little, though.
My Brotherly, abeg pay attention to your health, all will be well!
