The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has reinforced its longstanding commitment to security by presenting an operational vehicle to the Nigeria Police Force’s newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit. The donation aligns with LSSTF’s track record of equipping security agencies with critical assets ranging from patrol vehicles to surveillance infrastructure.

This gesture by the LSSTF makes Lagos one of the first few states to officially launch the new policing initiative. The presentation took place during a courtesy visit of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to the LSSTF HQ today Saturday 25th April 2026.

Against the backdrop of Lagos’ ever-expanding population and security demands, the IGP used the platform to advocate for increased support, stressing that the tools of policing must evolve alongside the challenges they are meant to confront.

The IGP Disu stated: “If the President is saying I know him well, it is from my record working as Commander of RRS. The truth is when the tools are there and the human beings are there, there will be successes. If people are talking about the efficiency of the RRS, the Lagos State Police Command, I can say that 70% of the achievements came from LSSTF. LSSTF is a model that everybody should come and see how it works. And that’s why I have to pay a courtesy call to LSSTF now that I am in Lagos on an operational visit.”

He then made a direct appeal to the LSSTF for continued support, The IGP said: “I also came to solicit support for the Lagos State Police Command, we all know the importance of Lagos and know the influx of people from all over the nation into Lagos, these are the men managing the security. As you have always done, please give us the support, give us the vehicles and help us to activate the helicopters because with the eye in the sky it makes the job easier.”

Earlier, the Executive Secretary/CEO of Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, underscored both the achievements and funding realities that the Fund is currently faced with. He reiterated concerns about dwindling contributions stemming from donor fatigue as well as growing competition from other states which are also floating their respective Security Trust Funds.

While commending the IGP’s leadership and connection to Lagos, Ogunsan urged him to leverage his national office to bolster support for LSSTF. “We want to take advantage of your office as IGP. When people come to you and tell you what you need, tell them as a Lagosian, ‘I want you to do this for Lagos because you actually have a stake in Lagos.’ Please help us chip in a word,” Ogunsan said.

The presentation of the Nigeria Police Force Violent Crimes Response Unit operational vehicle was witnessed by Board Members of the LSSTF including DIG Agboola Oshodi Glover retd, Ayo Otuyalo, and Mr. Uboh Udoh.

The members of the IGP’s entourage, including AIG Zone 2, AIG Olorundare Moshood Jimoh; Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, CP Tijani Fatai; ACP Operations, ACP Ehindero Lawrence; ACP Operations Admin, ACP Aka Shittu; DPO Alausa Division; and PPRO Lagos, SP Abimbola Adebisi, among other officers were also present.
