West Africa’s most stable democracy, Senegal is set to have a new President who will succeed Macky Sall. He is 44-year-old Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a strong ally of opposition leader, Ousmane Sonko.
This came after the country conducted a peaceful, rancour-free elections on Sunday 24th March 2024, TheMediaGood Newspaper can report. The elections had witnessed delays and uncertainties owing to the decisions of current President Macky Sall. He had postponed the presidential elections earlier scheduled for February to December 2024 which attracted widespread condemnation from within and outside Senegal.
TheMediaGood Newspaper can report that Ousmane Sonko was barred from participating in the elections. He, however, paved way for his ally, Faye and threw his full weight behind the young man. This paid off for their party, PASTEF. Many opponents in the election have congratulated the winner, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
