When it is not yet your time, no death can snatch you away. This is the story of a 104-year-old woman (whose identity is being protected by her family) trapped inside an inferno in a home hospice in Weston, Georgia, United States but was fortunately rescued by 4 men who demonstrated sheer bravery.

MASON NEWELL AND WALTER WILLOUGHBY WHISK 104-YEAR-OLD TO SAFETY

TheMediaGood Newspaper can report that Rick Newell and his son, Mason were driving by the Georgia hospice and noticed smoke coming from a home. As they began scouring the outside of the home trying to determine if anyone was inside, ‘My wife was on the phone with 911 and we just kept banging on the window and stuff like that. We finally got to the backside of the house and started banging on a corner window and we heard someone crying out for help. So, we were like, ‘Wow, there is someone in here, and we have got to get them out, we have to do something’,” said Mason’s dad, Rick Newell.

The father-son duo switched to hero mode and when 2 other men, William Willoughby and Ben Hughes stopped to help, a concentrated rescue operation was in full swing. The rescuers were driven away from the front door due to smoke and flames and were forced to pivot.

They turned their attention to the windows and found a viable entrance. However, it was covered by plywood. This didn’t stop Hughes. He physically ripped the plywood away. At this point, Rick Newell appeared with a sledgehammer that was used to bust out the remaining glass. Rick and Ben Hughes crawled through, entering the inferno. They quickly made their way to the victim and scooped her up.

Immediately, they made their way to the window where Mason and Walter were waiting. The two carried the elderly woman away to the safety of Walt’s truck where they waited for first responders. The elderly woman suffered no injuries and is expected to return home soon.

The Newells, Walter Willoughby, and Ben Hughes, all gained new friends that day. They’re Facebook friends now. Ben even has plans to go to an Auburn football game with Mason this fall.
